In an effort to buck the trend of strippers where she works wearing t-shirts with suggestive and often demeaning messages, Asher creates her own with the word “Genius” on it. The t-shirt doesn’t get quite the response she’s looking for, so in an attempt at redemption, she uses Freud as an inspiration for her costume at the annual strip club Halloween party – to even worse results.
"It’s challenging to distinguish yourself in an environment where stereotypical expectations are sitting next to you and charging $5 dollars to put their leg behind their head and lick the inside of their knee. You tend to get lumped in. You’re sitting at a table, having what you believe is an intelligent conversation that could easily take place on a plane or in line at the supermarket, and you see it in the customer’s eyes. They’re looking at you in a new, almost respectful way. You’re shattering their expectations of strippers. You, sitting in your sequined bra and sparkly thong, are thoughtfully giving your opinion on First Amendment rights and in the process are changing their mind on preconceived notions of women and sexuality. It’s enlightening. Then a stripper next to you pulls a cigarette out of a customer’s mouth, sticks in her ass, and proceeds to blow smoke rings in their face. And your conversation takes an abrupt direction shift when your customer pulls out his wallet and gleefully asks, 'Can you do that?'”

In "G-Strings and Uncle Freud" Sally Asher tells about her "genius" idea of emblazoning the word GENIUS across the tube top under her school girl blouse in an effort to bring a little more intelligence to the strip club scene. Her great idea backfires when the patrons read the word as "Genesis" and think she's trying to bring a Bible lesson into her strip act. The result is what you might expect if David Sedaris had ever been a pole dancer. This fun and hilarious account of Asher's "Freudian Slip" will have you laughing out loud and on your knees for more.Product details

GStrings and Uncle Freud edition by Sally Asher Scott Frilot John Haffner Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews
Sally Asher is one of those amazing writers who come about once in a blue moon. She's a natural at what she does. I believe that anyone who takes the time to read just one of her stories will be a fan for life. I can't wait to read anything new she puts out!
Just finished reading G-Strings and Uncle Freud. It did not disappoint. For an infrequent visitor to strip clubs, Sally's narrative is revealing and enlightening. I always wondered what the lives of the girls on stage might be like, what I did not consider was that they were as busy sizing me up as I was them. Sally seems to have a knack for telling it like it is without sounding preachy or condescending. Her often self-effacing humor is revealing of the nature in the humans around her. Through her eyes we see and experience areas of life that few of us could (or would) venture into. It's a trip worth taking.
Got this book because I had read her other books. It flows really good. I was done before I knew it. Totally loved it. I now have all of Ms. Asher's books on my kindle and I couldn't be happier. If you're looking for a good read, pick it up.
